Embodying superb craftsmanship, the Chitra Collection of exemplary objects represents a celebration of high artistry and tea’s rich cultural heritage
Paved with 1,658 sparkling white diamonds and 386 rubies, and featuring a central 6.67-carat Thai ruby, the diminutive teapot is designed to brew just enough tea for one cup. Its petite dimensions belie its luxurious credentials, however, being valued at US$3 million and holding the Guinness World Record as the most valuable teapot in the world.
Named The Egoist, this beautifully crafted piece, which also incorporates carved fossilised mammoth ivory, gold mounts and gold-plated silver, was designed by Milanese jeweller Scavia and British-Indian billionaire Nirmal Sethia, the founder and chairman of luxury brand Newby Teas. The Egoist is part of Sethia’s Chitra Collection, a private museum of artisanal and rare teawares comprising approximately 2,000 individual pieces spanning over 13 centuries, and valued at over US$200 million.
