Move over Ambanis, there’s a new big, fat Indian wedding that’s doing the rounds on social media. When a pharma heiress married a Forbes 30 Under 30 tech entrepreneur in Udaipur last month, the world’s elite descended on the City of Lakes for what became India’s most viral celebration of the year

Remember last year when the Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding had us all glued to our screens, gasping at Rihanna’s performances and celebrity cameos? Well, in November 2025, there’s a new contender from India for the “wedding of the century” title.

From November 21 to 23, Udaipur in Rajasthan, India, transformed into a glittering playground for billionaires, Bollywood A-listers, Jennifer Lopez and Donald Trump Jr. The occasion was the wedding of Netra Mantena, daughter of pharmaceutical entrepreneur Rama Raju Mantena and tech founder Vamsi Gadiraju. As the couple exchanged vows in style, it quickly became the most talked-about celebration since, well, the Ambani extravaganza.

Who is the power couple?

Unlike the household names we’re used to seeing splashed across wedding headlines, Netra and Vamsi kept a relatively low profile—until their wedding quite literally exploded across social media.

Netra is the daughter of Orlando-based Ingenus Pharmaceuticals chairman Rama Raju Mantena, a billionaire who runs research and development facilities in the US, Switzerland and India. Her father’s journey from Andhra Pradesh to building a pharmaceutical empire is the stuff of entrepreneurial legend, with an estimated net worth hovering around US$20 million.

The groom’s story is equally impressive. Vamsi Gadiraju is the co-founder and chief technology officer of Superorder, a Columbia University graduate whose start-up helps multi-location restaurants streamline delivery and takeaway services. The young entrepreneur earned his stripes early, landing on the 2024 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

The royal Udaipur venues that made jaws drop

The wedding festivities took place at the City Palace and Jagmandir Island Palace, with the lakeside city decked out with illuminated palaces, folk drummers, ghoomar dancers and Mewari cultural traditions.

The couple’s invitation alone became Instagram-worthy. It arrived in a deep ruby-red box, embossed with their names in elegant white script, topped with a golden elephant motif.

JLo’s performance

One of the standout moments of the wedding celebrations—and perhaps the reason it became so viral on social media—was Jennifer Lopez’s performance, which turned the wedding reception into a mini stadium concert.

Multiple clips show JLo lighting up the stage with an electrifying medley of her biggest hits such as Waiting for Tonight, performed with full choreography and immersive lighting. The superstar switched between outfits during the performance, sporting everything from a black leather bodysuit to a shimmering golden ensemble with knee-high boots.

But the moment that truly captured hearts was when JLo donned a custom-made pastel pink saree by Indian designer Manish Malhotra, complete with emerald jewellery.

Bollywood turned up (and how)

The sangeet ceremony, hosted by none other than filmmaker Karan Johar, read like a who’s who of Hindi cinema. Janhvi Kapoor delivered a soulful performance to Pardesiya, while Shahid Kapoor grooved to tracks from his own films. Kriti Sanon, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez and even the evergreen Madhuri Dixit took to the stage, each bringing their A-game. One of the most viral moments of the wedding, however, was when Ranveer Kapoor taught some desi moves to Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend, Bettina Anderson on stage.

The major fashion moments we loved

Netra embraced traditional bridal aesthetics with a contemporary twist, walking down the aisle in a breathtaking deep red lehenga designed by India’s leading bridalwear designer Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay. The ensemble featured intricate zardozi embroidery cascading from the waistline, with fine hand-embroidered detailing, while a floor-length red veil completed the regal Rajput-inspired look.

But it was her jewellery that truly stole headlines. Netra wore a cascading diamond necklace that sparked intense social media debate—eagle-eyed viewers immediately noticed striking similarities to the iconic pieces worn by Isha Ambani and Nita Ambani at previous Ambani celebrations..

Standing beside his bride, Vamsi looked equally magnificent in an intricately embroidered ivory Tarun Tahiliani sherwani. The groom’s ensemble featured subtle tonal embroidery, delicate pearl string layering and geometric pattern borders that perfectly complemented Netra’s regal red.

Why this wedding matters

Beyond the glitz and glamour, Netra and Vamsi’s wedding represents something fascinating about modern India. It’s a union of old-world pharmaceutical wealth with new-age tech innovation.

The couple, who both hail from entrepreneurial families deeply rooted in giving back through philanthropy, kept much of their personal lives private until this grand reveal. And even as the fervour dies down on social media and the last guests depart Udaipur, the Mantena-Gadiraju wedding proves that India is continuing to set the global standard for celebrations.
